The Jr. High's last basketball game of the season was canceled due to only four players being able to play. Being the fifth player for the Jr. Pirates, Jessie Garcia was sick with Scarlet Fever. Sorry Jr. High, maybe next year.
"Yeah, we are pretty bummed, but we always have next year to look forward to,” said Sergio Rangel. The Jr. high were going to play the Balmorhea Bears, but unfortunately bad things happen. "They had a good run this year,” said Coach McWilliams. "Yeah we missed out on eating some green enchiladas, but now I get to focus on my High School team and we get to practice more.”

On the 30th of January, JR High team will travel to Balmerhea to play basketball. This is JR High's last game of the season. Until next year will they be able to play basketball again. They played a good season and they improved a lot on their plays. We are hoping to pick up a win Monday. On behalf of the JR High team, I Jessie Garcia, want to give a huge thank you to Coach Mac for teaching us a system that we could work with. And also to Coach Bea, for helping us when Coach Mac was not here. WAY TO GO PIRATES!!

JR High has been practicing hard for their last game. They have gotten better at the plays that Coach Mac has taught. They only have until Monday the 30th. This is their last game so we are hoping not to lose too bad. If we can get the whole team up and running we can at least win by 2 points. But even if we do not win we are still going to go eat at the Bear Den. Coach Mac has told us they will feed us well before we go off and away from basketball season.

On the day of the Fort Davis game I sat down with the High School girls in the bus. I thought I would not be able to talk to them as much, but boy was I wrong! They started asking me how I felt about the game, and every time I said I was not ready Kimberly Morton would say "That is not the right thing to say Peanut.” It was great for them to encourage me, it was a fun game trip. Now I know that by going on field trips you can not only meet different people, but people in your own school. Then you can get to know them better.

Last night, the Junior High Pirates took on the Junior High Vaqueros in what turned out to be a very exciting game. For the first two quarters it was hard not to be excited. The Pirates kept up with the Vaqueros for the first two quarters. Our Pirates played a hard second half to the end. Unfortunately they weren't able to keep up with the Vaqueros and lost 27-13. The Pirates 13 points consisted of Ignacio Santillan with 6 points, Agapito Borunda with 4 points, Sergio Rangel with 2 and Jessie Garcia with 1 free throw. Overall good game Junior Pirates!!

It will be an action packed night tonight, the JH basketball team will play the Sierra Blanca Vaqueros starting at 5 pm. The JH Pirates record so far is 0-6. They play hard but always end up on the wrong side of the score board.
Jessie "Peanut” Garcia joined the boys half way through the season. She is a great player and really helps out with points. Hopefully they'll come out with a 'W'. Either way they love it and so do we! Come support our junior Pirates and the amazing Travel Class!

On Monday JR High will play a game of basketball. We are hoping to break down a win on this one. The team is starting to feel a whole lot more comfortable. The team can win if they listen to the coach and do as he says. With everything going on in basketball and the team getting more into the game we can win. Even if we do not win It is still an honor to play and to be on the court. We can't let the school down, and if the team has to play until their hearts burst that is what we are gonna do. We can and will try our best to win the last two games of this season.

On Friday the High school girls and boys will host a game. We are hoping to make up for the 2 games we lost for the girls team. For the boys we hope to make up the loss against Fort Davis. The girls team is getting better, with Coach Porras pushing them to the max they do just fine. Then with coach Mac working harder with High School boys we could pull of the win Friday. I wish everybody the best of luck, we need to play tough and play hard. Hopefully we will have some good shots and no one will foul out. Even though it is good to foul on some cases we don't need anyone to foul out. GOOD LUCK MIGHTY MIGHTY PIRATES!!!!

Today (1-10-12) the JR High and High School basketball teams will go to Fort Davis and play basketball. We are hoping to win all 3 games, it won't be easy but if we try we can make it. Everyone has gotten better at shooting and protecting the ball. The High School boys are sure to win the game today, because of the team working together and all the three pointers they make. The girls have their chance in front of you to make up for the loss the other day. The JR High can make up for all the mistakes they make in the games. This is every ones night to show Fort Davis what Valentine Pirates are made up of. PIRATES RULE!!!!

Yesterday on the 5th of January the Jr. High Pirates went to Dell City to play a game of basketball. Even though they lost with the score being 46-19, they still played a great game, with the team scoring amazing points, and Coach Mac having them prepared for the whole game.
Jessie Garcia made
three three pointers, adding up to 9 points. Ignacio Santillan made 2 points, Sergio Rangel made one three pointer, and Agapito Borunda made the last 5 points.
The team only made one foul the entire game, with Ignacio Santillan being the culprit. The team played better on offense and defense, which allowed more fast break opportunities. Even though they still have some things to work on, they will get better as a unit. As long as they have a great coach that cares for the team, they should be one complete team. Our next game will be in Fort Davis on the 9th at 5:00 p.m.

Go Junior Pirates. On Wednesday, January fifth, the Junior high Valentine Pirates will be going to Dell City to take on Dell City's own Cougars. The Junior High has not won a game yet, but this may be the game to break the streak. This is the Junior High Pirates first away game, due to injury and ineligibility, but now they are ready to start up again after the Winter break.. The game will be starting at 5:00 so be sure to leave early if you are going.
37-19 Loss Not All Bad

On Monday JR. High basketball players battled against the bears. It was such a close game at first but then the bears took the lead. With the bears fouling our players a lot we got some pretty good free throws and chances to make more shots. But in the end we pirates lost the game. With only a couple of points behind, in peanut's view we did an amazing job. With all our boys going in for the rebound we did better. In the first half we tied it up, but then in the second half we began to fall behind. Even though we lost we still have Dell City to play then more games to follow. I want to thank all my teammates for their hard work, and Coach Mac for not giving up on us.
The Junior High Basketball team played Balmorhea yesterday (12/12) and lost to the Bears with the ending score of 37 to 19. The Junior Pirates played a great defensive second quarter not allowing the Bears to score. Agapito Borunda was the high scorer with 10 points, Ignacio Santillan with 4 points, Sergio Rangel scored 2 points, and Jessie Garcia scored an exciting 3 pointer in the third quarter. Good job Junior Pirates!

On Monday the JR High team will play against the bears. Hopefully we will win this game. The boys (and girls) have been working on their plays, and let me say they are getting a whole lot better. Even though they lose games only a couple of points behind they can win this one.

All they need to do is work on being a team. Then we should be able to win this game with a bang. Coach Mac has been a good coach, he is showing the team good plays. He is putting all of his heart in to making this team better. We wanna thank you Coach Mac, thank you for not giving up on the team. We will never let you down!

Monday (11/22) the Jr. High Pirates took on the Jr. High Fort Davis Indians. The Pirates played a tough game at the beginning having the game all tied up 6-6 at the end of the 1st quarter. Then in the second quarter, Agapito Borunda made two free throws and Ignacio Santillan made a jump shot to make the score 10-11 at the end of the 1st half. Fort Davis kicked it into gear scoring nine points in the 3rd quarter, and holding the pirates down to only for, having the score now 14-20. Then, tragically, point guard Elvis Tarrango fractured his ankle at the end of the 3rd. That didn't stop the Pirates from playing hard though, even though they now only had four on the court. The Pirates scratched and clawed but in the end, the Indians won with the score being 19-26. Don't give up boys.
After the Jr. High game, the Lady Pirates took on the Lady Shorthorns. The girls played hard, and for the most part, the game was tied throughout the whole game. But the girls missed 19 points in free throws, and we all know that free throws can be game winning shots. Work hard on those free throws girls. Every shot counts. At the end of the game, the score was 24-28, with the Lady Shorthorns taking it to the Lady Pirates for two quick layups in the end of the 4th.

The High School Pirates took on the High School Shorthorns and played an exceptionally well game. The boys came out in the 1st quarter and scored 13 points on the Shorthorns and keeping them down to 11. In the 2nd quarter, the Shorthorns came back on the Pirates and scored 15 holding our boys down to only 10 points. The boys played hard, but their mistakes led to the Shorthorns to score more points. At the end of the game, the Pirates had 37 and the Shorthorns had 44. Don't give up Pirates, you're still young.
