Good but Not Good Enough

by Aaron Morton - May 8, 2012

Yesterday, (May 7) the Junior High tennis team traveled to Sanderson for the district tennis meet. Sergio, Ignacio, Jaci, and Coach Bea left at 11:20 am to play at 2:00 pm. And the Valentine tennis team representated our school very well! Even though none of our players advanced, everyone was still very impressed with the kids.

They got difficult seeds on the brackets. They played kids from Wink and Balmorhea, which were some of the best schools there. "They all played very well. Even though the set count wasn't close, each game was. Going to duce most of the games.” Coach Bea added. The kids all said they were really happy with their serves. They rarely double faulted, and got quite a few aces.

Sergio Rangel was the first to play out the Pirates. It was a close back-and-forth game against one of Wink's best. Sergio was getting some good, hard serves in, making it hard for his opponent. The kid from Wink had really good forehands and backhands which is what lead him to his victory. The final set count was 6-1.

Next to play was Jaci Garcia, the only girl's tennis player. She played against a girl from Balmorhea and her game was a lot like Sergio's. She had a lot of good serves but in the end, her volleys just weren't good enough. Every score went to duce or to 30-40 but she just couldn't get that extra point to win it. She finished with a set count of 6-0.

And last to play was Ignacio Santillan. He played a kid from Wink. Ignacio played his hardest, getting some really good plays in, but it just wasn't enough to beat the skilled tennis player from Wink. The final set count was 6-0.

Every player did played hard and represented their school well. Congratulations to a good season. Go Pirates!

JH Tennis is Coming

by Jessie Garcia - February 9, 2012

Tennis is close with the Jr. High preparing. The Jr. High Tennis Team is hoping to have a life experience in the sport. With their coach (Coach Porras) helping with their skills. We are hoping to make this tennis season as exciting as possible. Even though the whole team has never actually played tennis, they have been practicing very hard. GO MIGHTY JR. PIRATES!
